What are values in life?

Your values are the things that you believe are important in the way you live and work. They determine your priorities. Every single day we make decisions ranging from important life-changing decisions to the everyday decisions that we barely notice we are making. How do we make those decisions? We might weigh up the consequences or consider the costs but whether we realise it or not many of the decisions we make are often based on our values.

When we are clear about our values they offer us a solid and guiding foundation which we can rely on when important decisions need to be made.

So if you’re now sold on the idea of getting to know your own personal values what about the values of your country?

Think of how differently your ancestors may have looked at the world. Think of how your great grandmother would have thought about morality. Go back in time…….. what was more important, freedom or moral standards?

British values are a work in progress…..setting out how we want to be now, or what we could achieve if we put our minds to it and they’re very much part of politics. The government has said that everyone in England should be taught “fundamental British values” which it describes as “democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs”.

Here’s our take on British values………
